Dargah Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti
This is
known as "Dargah Sharif". The Dargah or the tomb of Khwaja
Moin-ud-din Chisti is located at the foot of Taragarh Hill. It is visited by
many visitors of different religions and sects from different parts of the
world. According to facts, Mughal emperor Akbar came here to offer prayers for
an heir in the 16th century, and the saint coerced him with a son. The size of
this mausoleum is divided into several white marble buildings arranged around
two courtyards. Calligraphic inscriptions, delicate carvings and detailed
lattice work adorned the wall and the installations of this courtyard, which
fascinated the visitors. The urs, or annual pilgrimage in May, calls on dozens
of discouraged souls to seek the blessings of the saint.
Adhai-din ka Jhonpra
This is
another exquisite example of Indo-Islamic architecture on the outskirts of the
city designed by Abu Bakr of Heart. It is believed that it took two and a half
days to build what he called Adhai-din. This was originally a Sanskrit college
before Mohammad Ghori turned the building into a mosque in 1198. The mosque is
famous for the small arches made of yellow limestone that reflect the old
Arabic style of the buildings.
Mayo College
It was
founded in 1875 as a school for Indian princes and its first student was the
Maharaja of Alwar. This is one of the best schools in India founded by the
British Viceroy Lord Mayo. It is also one of the leading educational
institutions in India and is compared to Eton of the East.
Some of
the other popular destinations of this place are the Nasiyan (Red) Temple,
Taragarh Fort, Pushkar, Ana Sagar, Shah Jahan Mosque, Taragarh, Man Mahal, Foy
Sagar and many more.
